The best way to find a doctor that specializes in Botox treatments is by word of mouth. Talk to anyone that you may know who has had the treatments to see who they recommend. One of the best ways to find a good Botox doctor is by getting a referral from another doctor that you trust.

Always check out the doctors credentials. Any Botox doctor should be licensed and most will be registered with the American Board of Plastic Surgery. You never want to go to a doctor that cannot prove that they are licensed to practice. You also want to look into the doctor’s accreditation credentials to make sure that they are properly accredited with the right agencies and licensed by the state.

After you have looked into all of the above, you can make an appointment to see the doctor’s office. You will want to check to see how clean the office is and how professional and friendly the staff is as well. You never want to go to a Botox doctor whose office is not spotlessly clean and the staff is unprofessional.

You will also want to make sure to ask and see before and after pictures of patients that the doctor has given Botox treatments to in the past. Finding a Botox doctor isn’t as hard as you might think, just follow the tips above, do your research and you will have an appointment for your Botox treatments before you know it.

Microsoft Windows metafiles are a vector for computer viruses

Monday, January 2, 2006

Microsoft Windows metafiles have been discovered to be a vector for computer viruses, as they are treated as image files, but can execute machine code. Windows metafiles often use the extension .wmf files, but they may also execute if their extension is .jpeg, .png or any other common image extension.

This vulnerability affects any Windows software which displays images, including instant messenger software, email clients, and web browsers. Firefox reduces the vulnerability by asking a user before executing Windows metafiles, but metafiles masquerading as another format will still be executed automatically by the operating system.

Microsoft has not yet issued a patch for the vulnerability, prompting Ilfak Guilfanov to release an unofficial patch. Microsoft’s security advisory recommends unregistering shimgvw.dll to disable handling of Windows MetaFiles. Critics point out that shimgvw.dll could become re-registered by malicious processes or other installations. They also suggest that malicious Windows Metafiles could merely remain “dormant” until shimgvw.dll is re-registered.

The exploit has been used to attack online forums which allow embedding of image files via <img> tags, prompting some gaming forums to disable <img> tags [1]. Any site accepting image media upload, such as avatars, will also be vulnerable if this site accepts .wmf files, possibly masquerading as another media file format.

The exploit has also been used by an instant messaging worm, which appears to provide a backdoor for later exploitation via an IRC bot [2].

The McAfee antivirus company said the WMF vulnerability is being exploited to drop over 30 variants of the Bifrose backdoor trojan horse, and exploitation by other malware is likely. McAfee estimates the first generation of such exploits had infected more than 6% of their customer base by 31 December 2005.

“The WMF vulnerability probably affects more computers than any other security vulnerability, ever,” said Mikko of F-Secure. [3]

Original Story
 • “Hotel development proposal could displace Buffalo, NY business owners” — Wikinews, February 17, 2006

Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Buffalo, New York —Attorney Arthur J. Giacalone has filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court against the city of Buffalo‘s Common Council and Planning board, alleging that the proposed Elmwood Village Hotel was approved “without giving meaningful consideration to either the impact on the adjoining residential neighborhood, or the unique character of this section of Elmwood Avenue.” Giacalone is representing Nancy Pollina and Patricia Morris, who operate the Don Apparel (a vintage clothing and collectibles shop at 1119 Elmwood Avenue), Angeline Genovese and Evelyn Bencinich, owners of residences on Granger Place which abut the rear of the proposed site, Nina Freudenheim, a resident of nearby Penhurst Park, and Sandra Girage, the owner of a two-family residence on Forest Avenue less than a hundred feet from the proposed hotel’s sole entrance and exit driveway.

The Elmwood Village Hotel is a 72-room, seven-million-dollar hotel proposed by Savarino Construction Services Corporation and designed by architect Karl Frizlen of the Frizlen Group. Its construction would require the demolition of at least five buildings, currently at 1109-1121 Elmwood, which house several shops and residents. Although the properties are “under contract,” it is still not known whether Savarino Construction actually owns the buildings. It is believed that Hans Mobius, a resident of Clarence, New York and former Buffalo mayoral candidate, is still the owner. The hotel is expected to be a franchise of the Wyndham Hotels group.

The lawsuit, filed in State Supreme Court, is seeking annulment of the City of Buffalo’s rezoning and site plan approvals for the hotel.

“Had the Common Council members complied with State law and waited to receive comments from the County’s planning agency, they would have been obliged to address the County’s concerns regarding the replacement of former residential buildings with ‘a much larger commercial structure’, the health effects of placing a 55-vehicle parking area next to existing homes, and the absence of a traffic study to assess the likelihood that the project would add ‘considerable congestion’ to the Elmwood/Forest intersection,” said Giacalone.

“The four-story hotel will overshadow the neighboring homes and backyards, impacting quality of life and property values. Equally as important, the project will displace a unique and diverse group of businesses that have served nearby college students and Buffalo’s arts and theater community for many years, and replace them with upscale retail establishments that will cater, not to local residents, but to affluent tourists and business travelers,” added Giacalone.

On March 22, 2006 the city’s Common Council approved the rezoning for the proposed hotel and on March 28, the Planning board approved the design and site plan of the hotel.

The lawsuit, entitled Pollina et al. v. Common Council of the City of Buffalo et al., [Index No. I-2006-3885], has been assigned to the Honorable Rose H. Sconiers, and is scheduled for oral argument at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday June 8, 2006.

Chinese ban on Wikipedia lifted for now

Friday, October 13, 2006

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Internet users on the Chinese-forums.com website report that the longtime block of Wikipedia by China has been at least temporarily lifted. Absent an announcement from the Chinese government, it’s unclear what the conditions were that caused the site to be accessible from within China.

A blog by Wikipedia contributor Andrew Lih says that someone in “Beijing emailed me saying he could suddenly start using Wikipedia again. Some folks in Hubei said it was still blocked. Shanghai and Guangdong users said parts were accessible.”

He continued that “from a Beijing China Netcom’s residential DSL connection, the English language and other foreign language versions are now accessible, but the Chinese version is still blocked”, noting that the Chinese-language version is the most important one to most Wikipedians in the country.

The blog entry goes on to explain the finer points of China’s blocking system, which is more complex than most media outlets suggest.

Wikimedia head Jimmy Wales told Moneycontrol.com yesterday that, “We don’t know what they took offense to. We really don’t intend to compromise the way Google did. We also feel that the block is an error. I am trying to set up high-level meetings in China to state our case and explain why we should be unblocked. We have no idea what the result of that would be. But we are somewhat hopeful. Wikipedia is not a haven for dissidents but an encyclopedia. About 99.9 percent of Wikipedia has topics that are not of interest to the Chinese Government. There is no political component. We are hopeful that they can see the point.”

He also told the outlet, he stressed how such bans were blocking Chinese perspectives in the global media. “[The] Chinese people would like to contribute to Wikipedia to give the Chinese point of view for the entire world to see. And China needs to be better understood by the rest of the world.”

The third block of Wikipedia, which was implemented 19 October 2005, was issued without explanation or an expected length. Wikipedia has been blocked twice before, the first from 2-21 June 2004, due to the 15th anniversary of the Tian’anmen Square Incident.

A website called baidu.com runs a self-censored wiki-based encyclopedia website, called baidubaike.com, launched in April of this year.

Wikipedia is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit organisation based out of St. Petersburg, Florida. Its 2007 annual convention, Wikimania, is set to take place in Taipei.

Usps Address Validation And Verification That No Business Should Be Without}

Submitted by: Mr. Software

Why Modern Businesses Need Address Verification Software

The USPS stands for United States Postal Service. It is an independent concern of the government of United States. The USPS is a delivery service provider and deals with billions of delivery parcels every week. The USPS system works by delivering items to the recipients on the basis of an address. This address contains unique identifying information like name, street, city, state, and postal code like the five-digit ZIP Code that represents a geographical area.

Most Delivery service providers like USPS charge a certain amount as shipping fees to senders. There are quite a lot of methods available which allow a sender to prepare the mail in a better way so as to get a discount on the shipping fee. One of the ways is to pre-code the mail with a bar code, and send it to a to a USPS mail processing facility. The USPS will now use automated mail processing tools to apply an 11-digit delivery point bar code on every mail for identifying each address.

Mailers can also bar-code the mails themselves. For this they need to use address validation software for validating an address and then bar-code each piece of mail. Validating addresses using USPS validating software means confirming that a particular address is available for delivery by the USPS. If the mailer now sends mail to that particular address, the item is sure to get delivered and it will not be returned to sender or destroyed.

There are many companies providing address validation software. They have an extensive product line for providing the full range of postal processing, mail data and Intelligent Mail solutions.

The MaxCASS software can clean up your files. It updates the customers database with the current and correct information about addresses available from the USPS. The MaxPresort is used for presorting mails of different types like letters, NFMs, flats, parcels and in different USPS classes. The MaxMover is used for providing users with the ability of automatic updates of the original records with the new address information. The address validation software is called Address Verifier. It can instantly verify or corrects unique addresses.

The biggest advantage is that this verification can be done in real time using the USPS ZIP+4 data base. Apart from it there are also certain optional add-on modules that can instantly assure you better mail deliverability, superior bottom line performance and also provide significant customer data.

Address Verifier can improve the deliverability of your mail by either matching the incoming address or else by matching your entire file with the most current USPS ZIP+4 database. Address Verifier will not only provide you with a correct and standardized address that includes name, street number, city, state and ZIP code, but also provides county name, congressional district, carrier route codes and delivery point barcode. These ensure accuracy and also provide superior marketing information. Lastly, another popular software is View.Dat. It can be used for viewing and validating Mail.dat files created during presorting mailing lists for some postal discounts. Thus it makes sense to use them for the growth and security of your business.

Illinois high schools now required to buy insurance for athletes

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

This past Sunday, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed into law a bill known as “Rocky’s Law” that requires Illinois high schools, through the local school district, to buy catastrophic injury insurance up to US$3 million or medical costs for up to five years, whichever one comes first, that covers student athletes. The insurance must cover student athletes while they are competing.

The legislation was named after Rasul “Rocky” Clark. In 2000, the Eisenhower High School football player became paralyzed from the waist down as a result of a tackle during a game. His school based health insurance covered the costs of his medical treatment. A legislator sponsoring the bill noted that the need for this type of insurance is rare. Clark’s mother attended the legislation signing. Her son died last year.

Before parents can claim money from school insurance, they first must pay out US$50,000. Schools have until January 1, 2014 to comply with the law. Schools cannot charge students more than US$5 to defray the cost of insurance. If a school district already requires student to be covered through private health insurance, they are exempted from this law.

Thousands gather in London to protest against government cuts

Monday, March 28, 2011

File:2011 UK protests.jpg

Hundreds of thousands of people joined marches in London on Saturday against public sector cuts by the British government. One union estimated up to half a million people travelled from across the country to demonstrate as the Conservative–Liberal Democrat coalition implements wide-ranging spending cuts.

According to reports, a small group of protesters dressed in black threw paint and smoke bombs at the Oxford Street branch of Topshop, and demonstrators in Piccadilly threw smoke bombs at the Ritz Hotel. The protests have targeted the government and a number of retail outlets, following on from the UK Uncut campaign which has demonstrated outside retailers including Vodafone and Topshop to raise awareness of alleged tax system abuses by the businesses.

The violence came to a head on Sunday as police stormed Trafalgar Square and the protesters ran, throwing bricks and bottles at riot officers. “I have never seen such a fast escalation of violence in my life,” one witness to the violence in the square said. “Everything just kicked off, glass everywhere, police hitting people, people being dragged across the floor. I just can’t believe it.” Clashes in the square finally ended in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The protesters grabbed metal barriers and hurled them over police lines, using them as battering rams.

Senior members of the TUC, the federation of 88 of the country’s unions, were quick to dissociate the disruptive actions of the “few hundred” with those of the earlier peaceful protest, claiming that the violence of a minority should not detract from the message behind the main march.

The Labour Party leader, Ed Miliband, addressed hundreds of thousands of peaceful marchers assembled in Hyde Park, and attacked the planned spending cuts. “Our struggle is to fight to preserve, protect and defend the best of the services we cherish because they represent the best of the country we love,” he said.

The Metropolitan Police said approximately 4,500 officers were policing the event, and 214 demonstrators were detained. On Twitter, the force reported two significant incidents of violence and that four police officers have been injured; one is being treated in hospital. They also said protesters had thrown light bulbs filled with ammonia at officers on Oxford Street.

Small protests have been ongoing in the U.K. since early this month, mainly in the northern city of Sheffield. In the biggest of these, 5,000 people attended a protest march on March 12 in Sheffield, with demonstrators marching from Devonshire Green, an open space in the city centre, to the venue of the Liberal Democrat spring conference. Barricades were set up after “violent incidents”, though only one arrest was made.

ICANN approves .xxx domain for pornography

Saturday, March 19, 2011Yesterday, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the agency governing Internet addresses, approved the creation of an “adult entertainment” Internet address, .xxx, on the web, first proposed in 2003. ICANN is the manager of the Internet’s top-level domains, such .com, .org and .net.

“For the first time, there will be a clearly defined Web address for adult entertainment, out of the reach of minors and as free as possible from fraud or malicious computer viruses

ICANN’s decision means success for the Florida-based ICM Registry (ICM), the company that first applied for the .xxx domain in 2004. ICM will oversee the new domain and will sell the .xxx Web addresses. ICM hopes that the establishment of a .xxx domain will contribute a degree of predictability and security to the largely unrestrained world of Internet websites. Its chief executive, Stuart Lawley, said, “For the first time, there will be a clearly defined Web address for adult entertainment, out of the reach of minors and as free as possible from fraud or malicious computer viruses.”

The decision was criticized by some of the Internet pornography industry’s biggest players who fear they could be the target of arbitrary censorship by governments and boards regulating the .xxx domain.

Anti-pornography campaigners also criticized the move, saying it gives the sex industry legitimacy. But since the .xxx system and its vetting process is voluntary, popular pornographic sites are not likely to trade their .com domains for .xxx. Anti-porn critics say that users who think they are avoiding porn by filtering out .xxx domains will therefore be misled.

ICM’s Lawley saw only positive outcomes from the decision: “Everybody wins. The consumer of adult sites wins. The providers will benefit because more people will become paying customers. And those who don’t want to go there will win as well, because the sites will be easier to filter.”

How To Write A Cover Letter

By Mario Churchill

There are countless workshops out there on how to write a great resume. Even colleges offer a service to have your resume reviewed and if needed rewritten. You can buy software to help you write your resume. You can even hire someone to either help you write your resume or write it completely themselves. It’s amazing how much help is given just to write a resume but yet there is no one to help you write a cover letter. In fact, most people don’t even know what a cover letter is, why it’s needed, let alone how to write it.

First let’s address what a cover letter is. Those who have heard of cover letters might tell you it’s a letter that accompanies your resume. Ok, but what does the letter entail? Is it a letter just saying ‘hi, please read my resume’? Is is a letter where you beg to be hired? Not exactly. You know how on the awards show like the Oscars, or the Golden Globes whenever an actor/actress receives a lifetime achievement award, they have someone come out and quickly recap their career before presenting them? Well a cover letter works somewhat along those lines. A cover letter presents you and your resume. A cover letter is going to tell an employer why, out of all the other applicants they have, they should interview you.

To begin, a good cover letter is short, and to the point. No cover letter should be more than 2-3 paragraphs long and it should NEVER be more than a page long. If you cover letter is more than a page long, then it is too long and will more than likely be tossed aside. Keep in mind the sole purpose of your cover letter is to sell yourself and land an interview. A cover letter that rambles on and on is not going to sell you. Keep it short and stay focused and stay to the point.

Your first paragraph is your introduction. This is the paragraph that tells the employer why you are applying for the job. This is also a good paragraph to show off your knowledge of the company and why you would be an ideal match for the position. You don’t need to mention how you came across the position especially if it was something you saw in the paper or online. Unless it is from a mutual contact, the employer really doesn’t care how you heard about them. They would much rather know what you heard about them and what you can bring to the table for them.

Your second paragraph is almost a recap of your resume. There is no need to recap your whole resume, only the highlights. Make sure though that those highlights pertain to the position you are applying for. There is no need to mention how you coordinate appointments for the VP of company XYZ if you are applying for a sales job. On the other hand, it would be good to point out how you helped increase sales in one quarter in your cover letter. This is where you show that your experience and your skills make you an ideal candidate for the position. It’s where you really get to present your resume. This is the paragraph that is usually tailored to the company. It’s where your research of the position will come into play. Remember you are only going to highlight those points of your resume that pertain to the position.

Your last and final paragraph should be your shortest. This is the key paragraph where you ask for that interview and give the employer options to contact you. This is also the paragraph where you can give the employer a date that you will follow up with them. While following up with them is an excellent idea, do not put it in your resume if you have no intention of calling them. It’s not a necessity to do this, but it does leave a good impression on the employer. It shows them that you are not afraid to take initiative and go for what you want. Also, make sure you thank the employer for their time and consideration before you sign the letter.

Writing a cover letter can be a tad bit intimating. Follow these simple guidelines and you will sail through it and find your phone ringing sooner than you expect it for that interview. Remember your resume might get you that job, but your cover letter will get you in the door.

Wikinews interviews 2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor Candidate Wayne Tseng

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Thursday, October 22, 2020

2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor candidate Wayne Tseng answered some questions about his campaign for the upcoming election from Wikinews. The Lord Mayor election in the Australian city is scheduled to take place this week.

Tseng runs a firm called eTranslate, which helps software developers to make the software available to the users. In the candidate’s questionnaire, Tseng said eTranslate had led to him working with all three tiers of the government. He previously belonged to the Australian Liberal Party, but has left since then, to run for mayorship as an independent candidate.

Tseng is of Chinese descent, having moved to Australia with his parents from Vietnam. Graduated in Brisbane, Tseng received his PhD in Melbourne and has been living in the city, he told Wikinews. Tseng also formed Chinese Precinct Chamber of Commerce, an organisation responsible for many “community bond building initiatives”, the Lord Mayor candidate told Wikinews.

Tseng discussed his plans for leading Melbourne, recovering from COVID-19, and “Democracy 2.0” to ensure concerns of minorities in the city were also heard. Tseng also focused on the importance of the multi-culture aspect and talked about making Melbourne the capital of the aboriginals. Tseng also explained why he thinks Melbourne is poised to be a world city by 2030.

Tseng’s deputy Lord Mayor candidate Gricol Yang is a Commercial Banker and works for ANZ Banking Group.

Currently, Sally Capp is the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, the Victorian capital. Capp was elected as an interim Lord Mayor in mid-2018 after the former Lord Mayor Robert Doyle resigned from his position after sexual assault allegations. Doyle served as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne for almost a decade since 2008.
