Skin Cancer Treatment Depends On The Type Of Cancer And Seriousness

Skin cancer treatment depends on the type of cancer and seriousness

by

ajay negi

Skin cancer treatment is needed to wipe out and remove a cancer. The best form of the treatment is determined on the factors such as the size and location of a skin cancer, medical history of the patient, health, age and the risks. Usually, skin cancer treatment is in the form of surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy and in some cases a combination of these methods.

When physicians choose Skin Cancer Treatment, they prefer surgery to remove Basil cell and Squamous cell cancers. Surgery takes short time to remove the skin cancer cells. If the area of the removed skin cells is large, then skin grafting may be necessary to reduce the amount of scarring.

Laser therapy can be used for skin cancer treatment if the cancer is on the outer layer of skin. This treatment requires a highly focused beam of light to tear down cancer cells.

Cryosurgery therapy is usually applied to treat small skin cancers, actinic keratoses and other precancerous skin conditions. Under this treatment, liquid nitrogen is sprayed on the skin in order to freeze and kill abnormal cells.

However, radiation is considered as the best skin cancer treatment to kill cancer cells and prevent them from growing. Radiation takes longer time to complete and has some other short-term side effects as well. The patient should be aware of these side effects.

If the cancer is only on the outer layer of the skin such as on the face, neck and ears, optical chemotherapy in the form of anti cancer drugs can be applied on the skin. These drugs are effective in removing abnormal skin cells.

If you have a skin cancer and It requires skin cancer treatment urgently, then you should look for a Skin Clinic Glasgow. Take the treatment only from the experienced and skin cancer specialists. You should also note that skin cancer could reoccur on other parts of the body. Hence, following the instructions of your doctor is necessary to avoid recurring of skin cancer.

Note that most of the cancers are curable today. Skin cancer treatment is curable due to advanced techniques adopted by the doctors. Many natural skin cancer treatments may work as an alternative to the surgery.

Interview with Reggie Bibbs on his life with neurofibromatosis

Friday, December 14, 2007

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic condition causing benign tumors (neurofibromas) to grow along certain types of nerves and, in addition, it can affect the development of bones or skin. There are several variants of the disease but type 1 and type 2 NF account for the vast majority of cases.

The disease manifestations can vary from very mild to severe. Major symptoms include growths on and under the skin; skin pigmentations called café au lait spots in type 1; acoustic nerve tumors and consequent hearing loss in type 2. Growths can affect nearly all parts of the body, and pressure on nearby structures can cause a wide variety of complications. There is a small risk that the tumors transform into malignant cancerous lesions.

NF is one of the most common single-gene human diseases; around 1 in 2,500-4,000 live births are affected by NF-1, whereas NF-2 occurs in about 1 in 50,000-120,000. Both type 1 and 2 are autosomal dominant conditions, meaning that only one copy of the mutated gene need be inherited to pass the disorder. A child of a parent with neurofibromatosis and an unaffected parent will have a 50% chance of inheriting the disorder. The gene responsible for NF-1 and possibly NF-2 is thought to function as a tumor suppressor gene.

In most cases of neurofibromatosis 1, patients can live normal and productive lives. In about 25-40% of patients there is an associated learning disability with or without ADHD. In some cases of neurofibromatosis 2, the damage to nearby vital structures, such as the cranial nerves and the brainstem, can be life-threatening. When tumors are causing pain or disfiguration, surgery is thus far the only proven beneficial treatment option.

Reggie Bibbs is a 43-year-old-man living in Houston, Texas. Mr Bibbs was born with a genetic disease called neurofibromatosis (NF), which causes him to develop tumors on his body (see infobox on the right). NF can be a subtle disease, but in Bibbs’ case it has left him with a disfigured face and deformed leg. But he is happy with the way he looks, and doesn’t want to change his appearance to please other people. He has launched a successful campaign entitled “Just Ask”, and that’s just what Wikinews did in a video-interview.

The interview was prepared by Wikinews reporter Michaël Laurent with the help of Bertalan Meskó (who has a popular genetics and web 2.0 blog). Their questions were sent to a close friend of Mr. Bibbs, Lou Congelio, who kindly conducted the interview.

British doctor killed while on honeymoon

Thursday, July 31, 2008

Catherine Mullany, a newly married British woman, and her husband, Ben Mullany, have been shot while on honeymoon in Antigua. Catherine died on the scene, while Ben is in a critical condition in Hospital.

The families of the Mullanys have described themselves as “deeply shocked and devastated.”

The incident occurred at 05:00 Antigua time (09:00 GMT) on Tuesday, and it is being treated by police as a robbery. A police spokesperson described the incident. “Shortly after 5am this morning officers from the Bolans Police station responding to a call, arrived at Cocos Hotel and Restaurant in the Valley Church area, the scene of a murder.” UK police have been asked to help in the inquiry.

Catherine Mullany was a doctor, who, before her death, planned to become a GP. Ben was a physiotherapy student at the University of the West of England (UWE), which is located in Bristol, England. Mary Price, the Media Relations and Internal Communications Manager for UWE, gave Wikinews the following statement:

Ben Mullany is a third year physiotherapy student at the University of the West of England. Ben is a very good student who is greatly valued by staff and his peers. Staff and fellow students are deeply shocked to hear of this tragic incident. Our condolences go to his wife’s family and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

New Zealand local loop unbundled

Wednesday, December 13, 2006

The New Zealand government has announced that the Telecommunications Amendment Bill, which will make Telecom unbundle the ‘local loop’, has passed in parliament only six months after it was introduced. The bill was passed under urgency on the last sitting day of the year.

The bill was opposed by two members of parliament from the ACT party and supported by 119 votes. The ACT party voted against the bill to prevent a split of the company into three divisions: retail, business and network.

Unbundling the local loop means that Telecom, New Zealand’s telecommunications monopoly company, will open its lines to competitors and provide “naked DSL”, which some say will lead to equal and fair competition in the Internet sector. The decision to unbundle the local loop occurred earlier this year when a mole leaked the proposal and the government had to make the announcement earlier than planned.

The bill will also enable minister of communications Cunliffe and the Commerce Commission the powers to split Telecom into the three divisions, after public consultation. The Telecommunications Commissioner will also have more power to implement the changes and monitor the implementation.

The bill will ensure that consumers do not have to purchase a phone account when signing up for an Internet account; before the bill was passed, a NZ$10 fee was added to the bill if the phone account was not with the Internet service provider.

The Honourable David Cunliffe, minister of communications, said that “We now have a clear, firm mandate from the people of New Zealand. Kiwis are demanding fast, ‘all you can eat’ broadband, which this legislation is designed to deliver.”

Hon Cunliffe said that history has been made with the new bill as it will bring New Zealanders faster and better broadband. “What some people said couldn’t be done is being done. What some people said wouldn’t work is being given the opportunity to work with an overwhelming majority. The bill equips New Zealand for the new digital age— an age where the smart use of technology will determine our continued prosperity as a country and make economic transformation a reality.”

What Welding Machine Would I Purchase?}

What welding machine would I purchase?

by

michael A

I am often asked the question, which machine should I buy? This is a tough question. One thing that is narrowing the choice of the buyer is the fact that top brand name machines are extremely expensive today.

I was amazed at the recent prices that some of the name brand companies were charging for their equipment.

It seems that the metal trades industry has jumped into the stratosphere lately with the increase in demand for metal products and the people that work in those fields.

I purchased a Lincoln 185 (single phase transformer) multipurpose machine three years ago that still had two years left on the original warranty when I bought it for $1500. Today this machine is still running like it did when I bought it. It is an inverter single phase machine that runs off a 50 amp breaker that uses a three prong 220 volt receptacle and is AC/DC Stick/TIG/Aluminum.

The replacement machine that was out there today is either a 160 amp or a 225/205 amp stick/mig combo. They don’t make the 185 anymore and come to find out you can’t get the 225 by itself, you have to go up to the 275. Why I don’t know. You can buy a 225 combo Stick/MIG in that range for more money.

The 160 in my opinion is a bit low if you are a serious welder. The 225/275 is more than enough for the average individual even in most shop or industrial settings.

To my amazement, the 275 amp machine by the same company mentioned above is anywhere from $2500 and up depending when and where you buy. Wow!! That hurts.

This is leading me to my point of people having no choice but to get away from the big name brand companies.

There are names popping up in the market place that would not even have been

a thought when it came to purchasing a reliable machine in times past but that has changed.

For the common man these off brand machines are the risk most will have to take due to the price crunch in our economy.

So let’s just mention some of these off brand machines. Please understand that The Welders Lens does not promote equipment and this is just an article to expose what was already covered with an insight to where you could go for help in these very hard times.

Here are some names you might try when looking for an inverter machine.

Please understand again, I am not promoting any of these brands or their products, this is simply researched information that might serve as a starting point for someone looking for help in this area: Arcon, Lincoln, Miller, Thermal Dynamics, Workhorse, Northern Industrial,Fronius,Kemppi, Migatronic,ESAB, EWM, just to name a few.

Now let me just finish this article by giving an unconventional means to an end.

If you are not in need of inverter technology and work with single phase transformer (which is fine for even the serious welder) you may consider trying this method that worked from old and will surely work still today.

You can buy a good reliable name brand machine that is dependable that comes with a 3 year warranty like Lincoln or Miller and use it for TIG as well as Stick if you don’t need the aluminum aspect of a TIG combo unit.

You don’t have to have a fancy foot pedal if you can weld with scratch TIG on one heat setting too.

You can buy a less expensive stick rod machine and use it for TIG.

The thing these days with the push for inverter technology and TIG designed machines is the mentality of using less energy and becoming light weight as well as giving a more stable arc upon start.

Stick machines worked just fine when I was welding and passed many an x-ray with those big bulky machines. When welding TIG all you have to do is buy a gas block with an ear for placing the jaws of a electrode holder on the gas block for your current and run the conventional TIG rig. The argon hose plugs into the gas block and the jaws clamp on the gas block and away you go. Just don’t forget you will need a machine that you can either swap the leads over either by moving the cable connectors or a switch on the machine.

Just something to consider. A good name brand stick machine goes for about $650. Much easier on the pocket.

Now if you need square-wave for aluminum, that is a different story. Anyway, I hope this might help someone gain a foothold on this seemingly ever growing economical question.

What machine would I purchase?

I personally would stick with the name brand if possible, check all reviews and comments on non name brand, and get the best warranty available if you do buy an off brand product.

Warranty work is not something we ever plan on, but what if?

Take care for now and thanks for your time.

Does My Pickup Truck Really Need 4 Wheel Drive?}

Submitted by: TruckGuy

It seems all truck dealerships these days are pushing 4-wheel drive as an option for new pickup trucks. This is a good question to think about when considering whether the use of your truck really warrants the added expense of this option or not. Even if you buy a used truck, the price will most likely be higher if the truck has 4-wheel drive. But what if you really never or rarely use it?

In most instances you will need to assess how and when you use your truck. Whether you use it for work, play or just cruising, what type of work, how you play and where you cruise will need to be considered. But first, you should understand exactly what 4-wheel drive is used for and examples of when it is most useful. The same thinking comes into play when you consider should I pay more for an F-350 as opposed to an F-150 when I wont really be hauling big loads of cargo or a motor home?

Manufacturers have many different methods and verbiage to depict power going to all of the wheels. 4-wheel drive is basically a part-time system that can be switched on or off as the situation warrants for more traction to each wheel. The best systems will allow the maximum amount of power delivered to prevent wheel slippage. This is used more in winter for ice and snow conditions or if you use your truck off-road when more traction is needed.

Having a four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive vehicle means you have one which the engine powers all four wheels either part time or full time. Some trucks have two-wheel drive, which means either the front or back wheels are powered by the engine, which can be less expensive. You may, however end up needing snow tires on all four tires if you only have 2-wheel drive. All-wheel drive, which is also referred to as full time 4-wheel drive, is designed for multi-functional driving situations both on and off-road and usually cannot be switched off.

So, now that you understand the difference between drive methods, how you use your truck is very important. Lets say you live in a southern state or parts of California where snow and ice arent a factor. You may think 4-wheel drive is not necessary, but if you haul a boat or camper trailer, you may think differently if you needed the traction when you got stuck in muddy water on a boat launch or love to camp in the mountains where the terrain may present a challenge to your wheels. The added weight of a large boat or trailer can destabilize your truck and create traction issues, which 4-wheel drive can work to correct. 4-wheel drive would be very beneficial in these scenarios when you could switch it on and off as needed.

Lets say you live in the Northeast and you are a construction worker. Your work site may take you to different unpaved situations that may require additional traction. Winters are brutal, you use your truck for plowing snow and you haul your boat or camper in summer, plus you enjoy off-road fishing or camping experiences, maybe even mudding for fun. Under these circumstances, All-Wheel Drive may be what you would need for these types of multiple uses.

Lets talk about trucks with only two wheel drive. When 4-wheel drive is not needed on a frequent basis, many pickup owners manage perfectly fine without it and can still haul some light cargo, drive on the highway, and manage well without it. Typical models for this type of use are mid-size pickups like Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma or Nissan Frontier. Many of todays newer vehicles have electronic traction control and stability control as part of standard or optional packages, making 4-wheel drive unnecessary.

Some drivers simply like the psychological assurance from having an all-wheel drive truck. If you arent one to venture off-road or winters arent harsh where you live, the benefits of having four-wheel drive may be minimal at best. Feel free to share this article with your friends and I would love to hear your comments at www.truckworldaccessories.com where truck enthusiasts are always welcome.

Honda recalls fire risk cars

Saturday, January 30, 2010

Honda have issued a recall for 646,000 cars around the world due to a potential fault that could cause a fire. The recall involves the ‘Jazz’ range of cars, which is known by its alternative name, Fit, in some countries.

water intrusion into the power window switch housing may in some instances cause a short circuit

Three incidents involving the problem, caused by a defective master switch, have been reported worldwide, two in the US and one in South Africa. In September 2009, Vanilla Nurse, a two-year old girl, was sleeping in one of the models, when the hatchback in Cape Town caught fire. Following the accident, Honda “launched an extensive investigation to determine the cause of the incident,” according to a statement issued today. Although they could not isolate the cause of the fire, “the investigation has shown that water intrusion into the power window switch housing may in some instances cause a short circuit, which in exceptional circumstances may lead to potential damages”.

Just 10% of cars are expected to need new switches. The remainder will need a waterproof skirt in order to keep water out.

Rival Toyota was forced to recall vehicles on Thursday, citing floor mats that may stick accelerator pedals to the floor. There are fears that Toyota may have to widen their recall to cover up to eight million cars.

Inflation in Zimbabwe becomes world’s highest at 11,000% and rising

Saturday, June 23, 2007

Inflation in Zimbabwe is now the world’s highest at 11,000 percent and rising. Reports first came in that the value of the Zimbabwean dollar had reached an all-time low two days ago, at which point the official inflation rate was 4,500 percent. Even though this was already high enough to be the world’s highest, to make matters worse, independent financial sources estimated the figure to be closer to 9,000 percent. Yesterday, reports came in that inflation had risen to 11,000 percent.

US Ambassador to Zimbabwe Christopher Dell is reported to have told The Guardian newspaper over the telephone that he believes inflation “will hit 1.5 million percent by the end of 2007, if not before,” adding that he “know(s) that sounds stratospheric but, looking at the way things are going, I believe it is a modest forecast.” Dell went on to predict that president Robert Mugabe would be forced out of power by the hyperinflation, a prediction also made by opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Dell added that he felt Mugabe would be out in “a matter of months, if not weeks” and justified his comments with the rationale that “It destabilises everything. People have completely lost faith in the currency and that means they have completely lost faith in the government that issues it.” Tsvangirai comments to the Associated Press were that: “He’s got an economy that’s down on its knees, he knows he cannot sustain it.” Despite this, Mugabe has expressed intentions to stand for the next election.

Exchange rates for the U.S. dollar have reached an official 15,000-1, but on the black market, according to one anonymous illicit money trader, deals have reached 140,000-1 in cash, with a shortage of bank notes creating a 200,000-1 premium on bank transfers and large overseas deals reaching as much as 300,000-1. Meanwhile, in the course of a week the black market exchange for the UK£ has risen from 160,000-1 to 400,000-1. Despite these increases, Mugabe remains adamant that his currency should not be devalued, and is keeping official exchange rates fixed, with the rate for the US$ fixed at 250-1.

The dealer said that added uncertainty had arisen from talks held between the current government and the opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change. The official press services published propaganda describing the talks as the opposition negotiating “in bad faith” for its own political gain.

Shops are running out of goods due to the huge cost of imported goods and the lack of local ones due to the closure of inflation-crippled factories. “If it goes on like this, we’ll have nothing to sell, we’ll have no staff and we’ll have to close down completely,” said one store manager, who was unnamed because he feared retaliation by the state for being a “prophet of doom”. Other shops have been closing down temporarily to change their prices.

Hyperinflation is also worsening already crippling poverty in Zimbabwe, with people unable to afford the necessary goods for survival. State regulations limit bank money withdrawals to Z$1.5 million per day, hopelessly inadequate given current currency values. One person’s pension company informed him he would no longer receive statements because the value of his pension fund had decreased to less than that of a postage stamp.

The state daily Chronicle in the second city of Bulawayo reported that Western countries were planning to become involved with the situation upon Mugabe’s departure with a rescue package valued at US$3 billion. Western officials have confirmed that budget proposals exist relating to, according to the Associated Press, “food support, public services reform and the rebuilding of agriculture and general infrastructure over five years in a new political landscape led by reformist Zimbabwean politicians.” However, state media again ran propaganda-based stories, saying that Western powers and their close political friends, who state media call the “Fishmongers Group”, were “working overtime to destroy the economy, mutilate the Zimbabwe dollar, foment civil unrest and then dangle a rescue package to win the support of gullible politicians.”

Wikinews holds a follow-up interview with Max Riekse, Constitution Party candidate for the 2008 U.S. presidential election

Friday, April 25, 2008

In March, Wikinews held an exclusive interview with Max Riekse, one of the candidates for the Constitution Party nomination for the 2008 United States presidential election. With the Constitution Party’s national convention underway this weekend, we spoke with him one last time before he either becomes his party’s candidate or loses.

Riekse is a retired decorated Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army who served in both the Vietnam War and the Iraq War. He is also a former public school teacher and Assistant Professor of Military Science at Western Michigan University. He has a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from the University of South Florida as well as two M.A.s, one in Political Science and International Relations, the other in Education and History. Both are from Western Michigan University.

We asked him if he thinks he has a good shot at winning the Constitution Party nomination and ultimately the presidency. He replied, “I will know Saturday the 26th if I win the nomination of the Constitution Party. As to wining the general election, I’m very sure that I will do far better then we have done in the previous 20 years as a ‘third’ party. I’m not only more qualified to be commander in chief then either the Democrat or Republican, but will be far better for the country.”

When asked about America’s illegal immigration problem he replied, “I will send all 20 to 30 million home. End birth right babies; no social security for them, etc. They are here illegally; now what part of that does anyone not understand?”

Riekse is running for president because “the Republicans and Democrats would not be having candidates that would solve the problems we have in this country and I know that I could do a lot better with my 32 years of military experience and over 20 years in Education, both in the K-12 public school venue and teaching at the University level.”

‘Kama Sutra’ worm set to strike

Friday, February 3, 2006

Computer security experts warn that a malicious computer worm, dubbed “Kama Sutra,” is set to wreak havoc this Friday, February 3rd on Microsoft Windows computers worldwide. Kama Sutra is designed to destroy files that end in .doc, .zip and .pdf.

The Kama Sutra worm has been spreading through cyberspace since January 16, packaged in emails with subject headings such as: “give me a kiss” and “crazy illegal sex.”

When users click an email attachment, their PCs become infected with destructive, self-replicating software. The worm affects Microsoft Windows operating systems and is programmed to go to work on the third of every month, overwriting or corrupting Microsoft files and others such as Portable Document Format (PDF) files.

“This one can damage your office files, your Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and your PowerPoint presentations,” Tino Klironomos, a computer retailer, said. “(The files will be) all gone, history.”

Computer security company LURHQ reports that there may be hundreds of thousands of machines already infected with the worm, which also goes by the monikers “BlackWorm,” “CME-24,” “Blackmal,” “Mywife.E” and “Nyxem.”

To prevent the worm, Windows users should arm themselves with anti-virus software. People can also protect their PC with up-to-date anti-virus gear and firewall protection. Free anti-virus tools are available from many anti-virus organisations. These tools can detect and remove the Kama Sutra worm from an infected machine.

Experts say: “Make sure your virus definitions are up to date. Besides being careful about opening email messages and attachments, users should back up their most valuable computer files on an external device such as a CD, zip drive or DVD.”

Steve Bass at PC World says: “Stop worrying. If you update your virus program signatures regularly, and do a weekly AV scan, I don’t think you have much to worry about…”

Other advice is not to open any messages with the subject headers “crazy, illegal sex”, “give me a kiss” and “hot movie.”

The worm will not affect machines running on non-Windows operating systems such as Mac OS X or GNU/Linux.

Many security systems reported a very small amount of vandalism, even though the threats were very high.
