5 Tips On Keeping Healthy Employees Away From Sick Ones

By Greg Garner

Winter is the season when employees tend to get sick. While it is difficult for an employer to prevent illness from occurring, some measures can be taken to control the contagion. In fact, it is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that healthy workers remain isolated from sick ones in the workplace.

Let us explore a few simple ways in which this can be done:

1. There are two main reasons for separating sick employees from healthy ones. Primarily, it is to protect the healthy workers and ensure that their health, productivity and pace of work are not affected by the sick ones. Viral fever, the common cold and the flu are contagious diseases that are easily spread in an office environment. Risks of contagion increase when sick employees share the same phone, computer keyboard, coffee machine or desk as healthy employees. Sneezing and coughing also aggravate the risk of contagion. The problem may not be acute with one sick employee but perhaps with six or seven of them.

2. The second reason is functionality. Sick employees work slowly and often make mistakes. When there is team work, the entire chain of work gets disrupted and the normal work flow is hampered. Sometimes, work done by sick employees may need to be redone by healthy employees. As such it may get difficult to manage the desired output.

3. One way of managing such an incidence is talking to the employees. If you have sick leave provision, then request the sick employees to make use of it. When such provisions are not available or are exhausted, explore options like advance leave or half pay leave if the infection is serious. Explain to sick employees how their presence may affect the health and performance of their colleagues. If a serious viral infection like Swine Flu breaks out, you may need to change the rules of your service to send suspected and affected employees on compulsory leave until they get a clean bill of health from a registered doctor.

4. Depending on the nature of the illness, a few sick employees may infect large numbers of employees. When employee illness is not life threatening and employees are fit to do light jobs, you may reassign lighter jobs until they recover. In such cases, it is recommended that you arrange a separate room for the infected employees.

5. Prevention is better than cure. Healthy employees need to be informed how to remain safe from the virus that has affected their co-workers. Some simple preventive measures include washing hands frequently with soap and sanitizing commonly used items like phones or computer keyboards.

It is important to keep in mind that you must not behave rudely towards employees that are sick. Stand by them during this crisis. At the same time you need to ensure that your healthy employees remain safe and that the business runs smoothly. When a contagious illness is spreading, explore the possibility of vaccination for your employees.

Indian royal family disinherits gay scion

Sunday, July 9, 2006

Manvendra Singh Gohil, the 40-year-old son of the erstwhile Maharajah of Rajpipla (India), was disowned by his formerly royal family for coming out as a gay man.

Homosexuality was effectively criminalized in India in 1861 under British colonial rule. The sodomy laws, which remain in force today, mandate penalties of up to 10 years in prison.

The Gohil family once ruled India’s Rajpipla principality. Although India abolished royalty when it gained independence from Britain in 1947, the Gohil clan is considered to be one of the wealthiest families in the south Asian nation.

Gohil’s mother put public notices in Gujarati language newspapers disavowing being his mother. “If any individual or organisation dares to (name me as his mother), it will invite contempt proceedings,” the statement said.

He said as an AIDS activist, he felt it was his duty to come out. Gohil claimed that India anti-gay laws hinder AIDS prevention among gay men since many are afraid to admit they are homosexual for fear of being jailed or blackmailed.

Gohil, who runs a non-profit AIDS foundation, told reporters he wasn’t interested in his family’s money. “I will not stake my claim to the property. I have found a family in the (gay) community and am happy working for the community,” he said in a Reuters interview.

UNAIDS estimated that 5.7 million Indians have been infected by the HIV virus. Gay organisations in India are currently trying to have the section of the Indian Penal Code that makes homosexuality a punishable offence nullified. Gay relationships are considered taboo in India’s mostly conservative society. A number of Indian organisations, including two HIV/AIDS prevention groups, have complained of being subjected to police raids and arrests in recent years.

Hundreds of SUNY New Paltz students demonstrate, storm administration building

File:IMG 2090.JPG

Saturday, October 22, 2005

New Paltz, New York — More than 350 U.S. students took part in a demonstration Friday outside the SUNY New Paltz Student Union Building where student leaders used a bullhorn from the rooftop to rally the gathering on the concourse below. University police dispersed student leaders from the roof which was followed by more than 100 students storming the Haggerty Administration Building (HAB).

During the 2004–2005 academic year, students lobbied for a $10 million renovation project for their Student Union Building, which has not been renovated since its construction more than 30 years ago.

HAB spokesman Eric Gullickson said that the supplemental appropriation for the project is the largest in the history of the college and that the six-member advisory committee includes three students but that; “the Student Association, which was offered the first seat on this committee, declined the opportunity,” Gullickson said.

Student leaders, including Student Body President R.J. Partington III and Student Senate ChairJustin Holmes, who played a role in organizing this demonstration, testified during the Spring 2005 semester before the New York State Assembly Committee on Higher Education, eventually winning the renovation project. Holmes says that Gullickson’s assertions are; “an out-and-out lie. The SA was never offered such a seat. We were offered 1 seat on a seven seat committee, with the administration selecting the other six members.”

The major arguments for a capital project on the Student Union Building were that it:

 • did not accommodate organizations and organization office needs
 • lacked crucial technology for student mobilization
 • was built for a student population less than half the size of 2005, and
 • was one of the longest standing Student Unions in the SUNY system which had not undergone a renovation

During the Fall 2005 semester the HAB claimed that it would oversee the renovation project, citing the need for a larger lobby and bookstore.

The Kingston Daily Freeman reported:

The crystallizing issue for the demonstration was the upcoming $10 million renovation of the Student Union building. The renovation, scheduled to begin in about two years, will be the first major change to the building since it was built 34 years ago, according to college spokesman Eric Gullickson, who said the supplemental appropriation for the project in the state budget is the largest in the college’s history.

Gullickson also said that a six-member committee had been formed to guide the design process, but student leaders, including Partington, were told that the proposed committee would be seven members, including four non-students and two students who were appointed by the HAB.

“No matter the size and makeup of the HAB’s so-called renovation committee, it has nothing to do with the actual renovation process, which will be administered by a student committee, with input from other parties of course considered,” responded Holmes.

During the Fall 2005 semester, Student Body President R.J. Partington III attempted to negotiate with Administrators, including HAB President Steven G. Poskanzer, over the project.

The HAB refused to concede to student demands.

At this point, the Student Senate passed legislation proclaiming that the project would be overseen by a committee where students constitute a majority, and Partington announced that he “did not recognize and would not sit on” any committee that did not meet the needs of students.

Vice President of Acacdemic Affairs & Governance, Stephanie Adika said, “If the HAB won’t even listen to us about our own building, how are they going to listen to us about all the other problems the students have with SUNY New Paltz.”

Illinois high schools now required to buy insurance for athletes

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

This past Sunday, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed into law a bill known as “Rocky’s Law” that requires Illinois high schools, through the local school district, to buy catastrophic injury insurance up to US$3 million or medical costs for up to five years, whichever one comes first, that covers student athletes. The insurance must cover student athletes while they are competing.

The legislation was named after Rasul “Rocky” Clark. In 2000, the Eisenhower High School football player became paralyzed from the waist down as a result of a tackle during a game. His school based health insurance covered the costs of his medical treatment. A legislator sponsoring the bill noted that the need for this type of insurance is rare. Clark’s mother attended the legislation signing. Her son died last year.

Before parents can claim money from school insurance, they first must pay out US$50,000. Schools have until January 1, 2014 to comply with the law. Schools cannot charge students more than US$5 to defray the cost of insurance. If a school district already requires student to be covered through private health insurance, they are exempted from this law.

Biting Bed Bugs Can Be Eliminated With Some Common Sense Solutions

By Ellie Lewis

There seems to be an inordinate amount of bed bugs hitting the scene at present, and this is to such an extent that horror stories abound in the media and on the internet. These blood suckers must find a living host to feed on and, unfortunately, most times, that is us! Bed bug treatment is a little hit-and-miss since these creatures are often hard to find. Their size alone makes it almost impossible to find where they are hiding themselves so this may need and expert to come in and rid the home of them.

These tiny creatures have quite a time of it for sure. They hide down in cracks and crevices in the skirting boards, seams on mattresses and just about anywhere, including carpets and rugs, which can give them a hiding place. Of course, not all of us are imbued with super eyesight so they are easily missed.

What is not missed though is the carnage that they leave behind them when they come out to feed. Initial signs are bite marks on the body which are exceedingly itchy. Scratching these can set up an infection so it is important to stop the itch scratch cycle promptly. Spots of blood on the bedding can also indicate that something is feeding off us so it is important to check this out when anything is seen.

These creatures only come out to feed just before dawn and the one that they like is peace and quiet. Any movements and they just go back to their hiding places until the next dawn comes around. The thing which most people do not understand is that these little critters can survive for a full five months without eating so just when we think that they are no more, up they pop again!

Skilled exterminators will have several tactics to their armory. One is that they spray the rooms to rid the place of anything like this. This is often not the kind of blanket spray but the ones which dribble chemicals into all the cracks and crevices that they can find. Mattresses will also be treated, particularly along the seam lines, and they can also be put outside in the sun. The sun is a great killer of many kinds of bugs and people in hot countries do this regularly to keep mattresses free from insects of any description.

Rugs and carpets will also need industrial cleaning to not only suck up the creatures but the eggs as well. They often have chemicals in the vacuum bag to kill off any that want to crawl out and this is a good tip for any householder who has to deal with animal fleas and ticks too. Put a flea collar in the vacuum bag permanently and anything which is picked up will die before it can get out again.

Lastly, when people are traveling, this is where the creatures are picked up and brought back to the home. Try washing all clothes in hot water before they are put back in wardrobes and make sure that the bag itself is treated in the garage.

World’s cheapest car launched in India, will go on sale in April

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

The world’s least expensive car, the Tata Nano, has been launched in India. It will go on sale in April, and will start delivery in July. The automobile costs only 100,000 Indian rupees, or just under US$2,000.

“We are at the gates offering a new form of transportation to the people of India, and later I hope other markets as well,” said the chairman of the auto firm, Ratan Tata, calling the vehicle a “milestone.”

“From the drawing board to its commercial launch, the car has overcome several challenges,” Tata said. “I hope it will provide safe, affordable four-wheel transportation to families who till now have not been able to own a car.

“This was never conceived as the cheapest car, but as providing transport to those people who never owned a car,” Tata said. “Driven mainly by the change in demand that we see elsewhere in the world, we suddenly felt we had a product that could be of considerable interest as a low-cost product in western Europe, eastern Europe, the UK and even the U.S.”

The Tata Nano is a four-door vehicle, and is 3 metres long, 1.5 m wide, and 1.5 m tall. It is equipped with a 33 bhp, 624 cc engine at the rear. No radio, airbags, power steering, or air conditioning are available in the basic model, although upgrades are available. The Nano Europa, a slightly larger European version of the car, is expected in 2011.

According to Ravi Kant, the managing director at Tata Motors, the first 100,000 people to receive a Nano would be chosen from the initial orders by a ballot.

An auto analyst for Bombay’s Angel Broking, Vaishali Jajoo, predicted that the Nano will add only three percent to Tata’s revenues even if it can sell a quarter of a million such cars per annum.

“That doesn’t make a significant difference to the top line,” Jajoo said. “And for the bottom line, it will take five to six years to break even.”

Environmentalists say that the car will exacerbate traffic problems already rife in India, and help increase pollution levels. Tata, however, stated that its vehicle is the least polluting car in the country.

Top 4 Mobile Apps On Casino Games For Android &Amp; I Os

One of the most significant advantages of using an online casino is convenience; you can play your favourite casino games anywhere with an internet connection.

Nowadays, more and more people are doing the majority of their internet browsing from mobile devices. If a company’s website isn’t optimized for mobile, they’ll be missing out on a large chunk of revenue.

The same can be said for mobile casino gaming. Thanks to advancing technology, mobile apps can offer online casino players a more intuitive, streamlined, and immersive experience than ever from the convenience of a mobile device.

Some casinos offer dedicated apps to download whereas others have designed their websites to be responsive and adapt to mobile devices.

The casinos with the best mobile apps gain a big advantage over their competitors and offer a more enjoyable experience.

This article highlights the casino with the best mobile apps that have been included on Casino.Guide, which is the place to go for Canadian players who want an in-depth guide for online casinos.

1. LeoVegas Casino

When LeoVegas was initially launched in 2012, it was already very mobile-focused and, as a result, quickly became one of the top mobile gaming sites on the internet. In 2019, the company was crowned Mobile Casino Operator of the year and has won various other awards in the mobile gaming sector.

In 2021, LeoVegas still provide one of the highest-quality mobile casino experiences available. You can play LeoVegas directly in a web browser, thanks to their mobile-responsive design. The HTML5 browser version will work across all devices, but you can also download their dedicated mobile apps on both iOS and Android devices.

The LeoVegas mobile apps present a lightweight, streamlined gameplay experience with a vast library of games from various top providers like NetEnt and Microgaming. The mobile apps have a slightly reduced game library than the browser version, but this is done to reduce storage requirements, and the selection is still vast.

Overall, LeoVegas delivers one of the best online casino experiences you could have on your mobile device, which should be expected from a company that has always had a forward-thinking mobile-first approach.

2. Mr Green Casino

The Mr Green Casino has become known for hosting an incredible variety of games from the industry’s top software providers. Some casinos only use games from a handful of software developers, which can be very limiting. However, at Mr Green, you’ll find the best games from all of the most well-known developers. Best of all, you can play every one of these games on your mobile devices.

Mr Green Casino has an HTML5 version of their desktop site that offers a more streamlined but robust way to play their entire game library on all devices.

If you’d prefer to play inside dedicated apps for your smartphone, Mr Green has that too, with iOS and Android apps available to download. The apps’ key advantage is they give you the chance to set alerts and have each been optimized for their specific devices.

Unfortunately, you don’t get the entire library on the iOS or Android app, which is the case with most mobile casino apps. Nevertheless, the selection is still broad, and Mr Green is excellent at keeping their apps up to date with the latest games and features.

If it is a vast selection of top-quality games you’re looking for, Mr Green Casino will not disappoint you.

3. NetBet Casino

NetBet is slightly different from the previous casinos on our list because it doesn’t have a dedicated mobile app that you can download. However, their mobile browser app is so good, NetBet had to be included on the list.

The exception is Poker, which has a dedicated app from NetBet, which players must download for free.

You can play all of the other games across all mobile devices on NetBet’s mobile version of the website. Many mobile sites end up being clunky, difficult to navigate, and hard to read, but NetBet’s site is quite the opposite.

The HTML5 website is simple to navigate with clear buttons and text so you can find your favourite games with ease. Some of the games have even been redesigned with mobile-specific features.

Another feather in NetBet’s mobile-friendly cap is their selection of live-dealer games, which are just as crisp on mobile as they are on desktop. You can immerse yourself in live games of Blackjack and roulette from anywhere with an internet connection.

It is worth mentioning that NetBet also has Sports betting, which you can do via mobile devices. Unlike their casino games, the sports betting side of NetBet does have dedicated apps for iOS and Android.

Sportsbetting aside, NetBet brings players a clean and user-friendly way to play all the traditional casino games online, even without dedicated apps, when it comes to mobile casinos.

4. Boom Casino

Like NetBet, Boom Casino doesn’t have an app to download and is available across all devices directly from your mobile browser. Again, the site is built on HTML5, which is becoming the standard for mobile casinos due to how user-friendly it is.

Boom Casino is well-known for having a massive collection of games. To give you an idea of the numbers, there are over 2,000 slot games with new ones being added each week, and you can play all of them on your mobile devices.

Of course, there are also plenty of traditional table games like Blackjack and Roulette if those are your preference. Also, you can access the live versions of these table games from your mobile. However, the live games will eat your mobile data, so it is best to play live-dealer games via WiFi when possible.

When it comes to the website itself, Boom Casino is very smooth on all mobile devices. Even though the library is filled with thousands of games, it is easy to navigate through.

The games themselves look and sound fantastic. Sleek graphics and crisp audio make the experience just as much fun as on a desktop.
