The purpose of Tower cranes is to lift up, carry and drop down heavy construction material and substances. Since it is a mechanical device that is normally used in the manufacturing of heavy weight equipment, it is appropriate for individuals related to construction business. Therefore, Tower cranes are generally used and seen at almost all the sites that are under construction.

According to many experts, Tower cranes are the contemporary kinds of cranes that are made using the most recent and modern technology. It is because of its uplifting ability and height that these cranes are mostly found at sites where tall buildings are being constructed. These cranes feature long post, which is fixed to the land or ground and also two arms, one, which is horizontally positioned, and another, which is diagonally balanced disproportionately at the top of the crane tower. The function of the long extended arm is to hold the lifting gear whereas the function of the short arm is to hold building blocks. Now the question arises that since Tower cranes have no such support on both sides, how does it actually operate or function? In order to have a clear understanding on how these cranes operate, it is essential to gain knowledge regarding the basic parts of these cranes. Tower cranes consist of three basic parts, base, mast (commonly known as a tower) and a slewing unit. The Base serves the purpose of providing support to the tower crane and is fastened tightly to a large and solid concrete pad. The mast or the tower provides height to the crane and is directly connected to the base. Last but not the least, the slewing unit is a motor, which enables the crane to revolve or rotate at different directions. As discussed earlier, Tower cranes are manufactured using the most recent technology, and intelligence when combined with this remarkable technology gave origin to this effective machinery that has made the construction work much easier. The entire crane is not built in one go, but is created in parts a few weeks or months before its actual operation. A Tower crane is a great invention and has amazed people with its incredible attributes and performance. Though Tower cranes have the capacity to load up to 40,000 pounds, experts suggest that it is not recommendable to load this heavy weight. These Tower cranes have the capacity to rise up to hundreds of feet high. The construction team utilizes these cranes to lift up concrete, steel and other large objects like generators, acetylene torches and various other heavy building substances. If you ever get a chance to look at how these cranes operate you will be amazed of how it can lift such heavy weight and is able to grow up taller as the building increases in height.

New Jersey to consider bikini waxing ban

Friday, March 20, 2009

New Jersey is considering a state-wide ban on Brazilian waxes, the removal of hair from the bikini area.

Although genital waxing has never really been allowed in the state, the New Jersey Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling plans to propose a ban with more specific legal wording, in response to two women who reported being injured during a wax. The board will consider the proposal at their next meeting on April 14.

If the measure passes, New Jersey may become the only US state to ban the practice outright.

Although millions of Americans engage in bikini waxes, which generally cost between $50 and $60 per session, the practice comes with risks. Skin care experts say the hot wax can irritate delicate skin in the bikini area, and result in infections, ingrown hairs and rashes.

Waxing on the face, neck, abdomen, legs and arms would continue to be permitted in the state under the proposed ban. Although New Jersey statutes have always banned bikini waxing, the laws were unclear and seldom enforced.

As a result, many salons from around the state have offered bikini waxing for years. Many salon owners spoke out against the proposed ban, which they said would severely damage their business.

“I really don’t know if the state can stop it at this point,” said Valentia Chistova, owner of the Monmouth County salon Brazil. “I know a lot of women who are really hooked.”

Wood Window Sill Repair}

Wood window sill repair

by

John RoccoIf you have old wood windows, chances are they are in need of painting, or worse, they are rotting. You have a few options. You can paint them every few years and use wood filler to repair the rotting areas. This is probably your cheapest option if you do the labor yourself. You can replace the entire sill with new sills that are either wood or a composite material. If you do the work yourself, this option will be more expensive than painting, but not too extreme. However, eventually the new sills will require regular maintenance. A third option is to hire a contractor to wrap the window sills with an aluminum material. This is not a job that you should attempt yourself. In addition to needing the special tool to bend the aluminum, it is a skill that takes practice to perfect. Also, painted aluminum can scratch and dent and require maintenance in the future.

The option that I want to discuss is wrapping your window sills with vinyl. My company sells a vinyl extrusion that is already pre formed to fit on 95% of all wood window sills. If the thickness of your window sill is greater than 1 3/4″, you are in the 5%. The advantages of a vinyl window sill cover are as follows; First, you never have to deal with maintenance issues again. No more painting, no more wood rot, no scratching or denting. Second, a homeowner with basic tools can do the job themselves. Third, if you have vinyl replacement windows installed or are planning on installing vinyl replacement windows, the white vinyl matches the window frame. If you install vinyl replacement windows that have colored frames, the vinyl window sill covers can be painted to match most colors using a spray paint that is designed for plastic patio furniture. Krylon and rustoleum both make a plastic spray paint. The vinyl window sill covers can be cut using a circular saw or a simple hacksaw. The sill covers are attached to the wood using an extreme weather sealant so no screws or nails are exposed. You can watch my vinyl window sill cover installation video on You Tube by going to https://youtu.be/EcV5gwzk9k4

If you live in a state where there are restrictions on lead in the paint that is used to maintain the window sills, this product will eliminate the detection of lead. I sell a lot of these window sill covers in the Northeast, particularly Massachusetts. Now, if you want the exterior to be all vinyl, you can combine the vinyl window sill cover with my vinyl angle window trim to cover the surrounding wood molding for an all vinyl look. You can watch the vinyl angle trim video on You Tube by going here https://youtu.be/n45jyWy-6wA

If you want to purchase the vinyl window sill covers or vinyl window angle trim, visit my online store here http://store.how-to-install-windows.com/index.html

Historic gym the site of Benet Academy, Illinois victory over Oswego

Monday, January 18, 2010

Benet Academy Redwings 40 34 Oswego Panthers

The Benet Academy Redwings boys basketball team defeated the Oswego High School Panthers 40–34 Saturday night at Benet’s historic Alumni Gym.

Located at Lisle, Illinois, United States, the gymnasium is home to Benet’s winning streak of 102 consecutive home games. The statewide record lasted from November 26, 1975 until January 24, 1987, when Naperville North High School defeated the Redwings 47–46. Benet also achieved 96 consecutive victories in the Western Suburban Catholic Conference at that time.

The school continued to use the facility, colloquially referred to as the “Old Gym” or the “Small Gym”, until the end of the 1994 season, when a newer athletic center was built on campus. It wasn’t until the late 1990’s when then-coach Marty Gaughan decided to play one game per year in the Alumni Gym to remind the school of its history. “There is just an electricity, and you feel it when you are in there,” said Gaughan, who coached the team from the 1989–1990 season to the 2007–2008 season.

This tradition continued until the 2006–2007 season, when the Redwings played against long-time rival St. Francis High School. Renovations prevented the gym from being used for athletic events over the past two seasons. This game was Benet coach Gene Heidkamp’s first opportunity to coach in the older gym. “So much history and winning has taken place there, which makes it so special. It is something the entire school community is excited about,” said Heidkamp.

Saturday’s game was played at the Alumni Gym at the request of Oswego assistant coach Jim Bagley. He wanted his son, senior forward Chris Bagley, to experience the same atmosphere he had as he played for Benet in the 1978–1979 season. Greg Kwiatkowski was also Jim Bagley’s teammate in Benet, and his son, Joe Kwiatkowski, was in the Panthers’ starting lineup as well. “Two of us who played at Benet together and now our son’s play on [Oswego] together and for them to have a chance to play where we played is going to be a great night and great experience,” said the senior Bagley.

Alumni Gym apparently still had its charm in the second half for the Redwings, whose 15–17 score at halftime worsened into an 11-point deficit in the third quarter. Benet fell behind with a score of 21–29 at the start of the fourth quarter. From that point, the Redwings’ defense began to kick in. Oswego could make only 2 of its 13 field goals in the third quarter. Benet’s offense also gained momentum as center Frank Kaminsky scored all of his 9 points in the fourth quarter. A shot by senior Mike Runger brought the score to 31–31, and two consecutive driving layups by David Sobolewski gave Benet the lead that would last for the rest of the game.

“We hit a dry spell there, but let’s give credit where credit is due. Defense wins games and they are the best defensive team we’ve faced all year,” said Oswego coach Kevin Schnable.

Benet’s Matt Parisi led his team with 15 points, and Sobolewski scored 12. Oswego’s Andrew Ziemnik also scored 12.

Cambodian lawmaker calls for ASEAN website to be blocked over missing land

Saturday, June 2, 2007

Thirty-five square kilometers, or 13.5135755 square miles, or 3,500 hectares or 8,648.68835 acres.

However you figure it, it’s a sizeable chunk of land.

And it’s missing from Cambodia on the website for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, a 10-member regional body of which Cambodia is a member.

The apparent rounding down of Cambodia’s territory, 181,035 square kilometers, on the ASEAN website, has some Cambodian lawmakers up in arms.

Parliamentarian Keo Remy, a member of the opposition Sam Rainsy Party, is calling for the ASEAN website to be blocked by Cambodia’s Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications if the number is not corrected.

“We know that Cambodia has border disputes with its neighbors, and Khmer citizens are paying attention on these issues. We cannot accept such incorrect points. The most important thing is that the government should close this web site,” Keo was quoted as saying by the Khmer-language daily newspaper Kampuchea Thmey.

Though Keo acknowledged the error could be an honest, if careless, mistake, he said it could mean something more sinister – that ASEAN is trying to undermine Cambodia’s sovereignty, and that perhaps ASEAN is working for neighboring nations. It could even be treasonous, he said.

“If it was intentional and perpetrated by a Cambodian, this is treason. It is like not knowing your own parents,” Keo was quoted as saying by Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

Other lawmakers also called on the Cambodian government to take action.

“The royal government must react urgently, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,” Monh Saphan, a Funcinpec parliamentarian was quoted as saying by Kampuchea Thmey. “The website [must] be corrected, because it affects the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Cambodia.”

And non-governmental organization leaders weighed in.

“The state’s figure is more important and appropriate than figures of other organizations. Therefore, we should urge the government to check this issue,” Seng Theary, executive director of the Center for Social Development, told Kampucha Thmey. “We also wonder where ASEAN got this figure.”

Kek Galabru, president of the Cambodian League for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights, said that incorrect figure is most likely a mistake, but said the government should investigate it. “Otherwise a small problem might turn into a bigger issue,” she said.

Government spokesman and Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said he would investigate, and called for cooler heads in the meantime.

Border disputes are a hot-button political issue in Cambodia, which has some long-standing unresolved boundary conflicts with neighbors Thailand and Vietnam.

Cambodia joined ASEAN in 1999, the last country to gain admittance to the regional geo-political and economic body for Southeast Asia. It was founded in 1967 by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Other members are Brunei, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Office Design Ideas For Commercial Office Space

By Alan Francis

Office Design Ideas for Commercial Office Space

(And why you should always use a specialist Project Manager)

What constitutes Commercial Office Space?

Normally any kind of premises from which you could run a business and where part of which is set aside for administration purposes. From small shops, warehouses, supermarkets, factories and office blocks, to leisure facilities such as pubs, restaurants, gyms, etc.

Whereas moving to a new business premises, coming up with innovative and creative office design ideas and fitting out the commercial office space to your company’s exact requirements or even refurbishing existing to make better use of the space – may not be quite as complex as building an Olympic stadium, each task does nevertheless require a similar level of specialised project management expertise to manage it correctly.

So What Makes a Good `Project Manager’ Anyway?

Many in-house `Project Managers’ tasked with any one of the above mentioned responsibilities – often by ill-informed bosses on the grounds that: “he/she has nothing better to do at the moment and we’re paying their salaries anyway” will often attempt to `re-invent the wheel in trying to become an expert in all areas of commercial office space refurbishment, office fit out and business relocation in the very short time available – taking a real chance of `blowing the budget or employing `cowboys’.

For many inexperienced managers – who may never have lived through the experience before – it’s a bit like trying to cross a minefield blindfolded – you just don’t know where the hazards are until you step on them!

Do We Have The Right Resources To Hand?

To find out whether you have the right resources in place to project manage your next commercial office space refurbishment or fit-out try answering the following questions:

Have I carried out a similar project recently of the same size and type?

Do I know how to create an accurate outline budget?

Do I know all the critical deadlines and how to meet them?

Can I plan, budget, coordinate and implement the required works on time?

Do I know all the mistakes to avoid?

How will I know what the `right’ prices are when all the quotes from the

suppliers/contractors look the same?

How can I avoid employing `cowboys?

Will I be able to unravel the `industry jargon used by my suppliers and

contractors to ensure I’m getting what I’m paying for?

Will I be able to find the time to manage all this alongside my regular

`Day Job’?

If the answer to just ONE of the above questions is NO then you need an outsourced expert.

Experience is the Key

Selection of competent suppliers to correctly implement your companys particular office design ideas always seems easier than it really is. Most novice commercial office space project managers will resort to the price and three references method of selection. This means that potential suppliers and contractors are invited to submit their best price for goods and services.

Since it is assumed that all suppliers are created equal, the temptation is to hire the ones offering the lowest prices. And, just to cover themselves, these in-house managers will also ask for three references from satisfied customers who have successfully used that supplier.

Simply by `phoning those references and asking them if they were satisfied with the supplier, in theory, should yield a risk-free selection, right? Nothing could be further from the truth! Do you really believe that a supplier will furnish names of dissatisfied customers? Suppliers will ONLY supply good references. Now, what do you do?

There are many areas of focus that will help you find the right supplier, and they go way beyond the price and three references approach. First, you need to determine the typical project size and scope in which your potential suppliers have the most experience. You want to match your commercial office space refurbishment or fit out project as closely as possible with your suppliers experience and office design ideas.

Does the supplier work on commercial office space projects of your size, or do they suit a different size of customer? What about the scope of the project? Have they performed many very similar projects successfully, or is this one a stretch for them? Is your supplier a specialist at interpreting your companys particular office design ideas, or are they a generalist who attempts to satisfy many needs? The choice is ultimately yours, and there is no right or wrong answer. Experience is the key factor here.

For example, look for an established company with plenty of experience of successfully interpreting clients office design ideas including projects for many `blue chip companies as this is more likely to be the kind of specialist you’ll need to produce successful results for you rather than a one-man-band or generalist: allowing you to get on with what you do best making profits for your own business!
